Vagifem vaginal tablets are a hormone-based treatment for women going through menopause. The shortage of oestrogens during menopause may cause the vaginal wall and its lining to become dry and thin. This can lead to pain during intercourse and an increase in itching/irritation, which can cause infections. By replacing estrogen via the vaginal cream Ovestin, the patient can see a reduction in symptoms and maintain balance during menopause.

When to Use Vagifem Tablets?

Vagifem treats moderate to severe symptoms that occur during menopause - also known as atrophic vaginitis and vaginal atrophy.

The tablets can help to relieve the following symptoms:

  • Vaginal irritation, burning, and itching
  • Vaginal dryness
  • Urinary symptoms
  • Painful intercourse

As a local treatment, your body will absorb the hormone where it's needed, which means that your bloodstream will only absorb a small amount of the treatment.

Age Restrictions for Vegifem

While Vagifem is only intended as a treatment for vaginal symptoms during menopause. This medication can only be prsscribed for over 18 years old. For this reason, most people are between 45 and 55 when they begin using it.

How to Use Vagifem?

Vagifem is a local treatment that comes in the form of a pre-loaded vaginal tablet. You insert it by using a disposable applicator.

When using the treatment, please follow these instructions:

  • Prepare: Wash your hands, then open the blister pack and remove the included applicator. Each tablet is already inside its applicator.
  • Get Comfortable: Find a position that works for you. Some people prefer lying down, while others prefer squatting.
  • Insert the Applicator: Insert the applicator into your vagina, only as far as it will go without compromising your comfort. You should wait until the applicator is halfway inside.
  • Release: Press the plunger with your index finger until you hear a clicking noise. This means that the tablet has been released into the vagina.
  • Removal: Remove the applicator tool and dispose of it. You should use a new applicator for each dose.

You should never swallow Vagifem tablets. It's also important to attend any check-ups arranged by your doctor.
