When to Use Treclin Gel?
Treclin Gel is a highly effective prescription-only treatment for acne vulgaris. Because of its strength and combination of ingredients, it's most effective in reducing:
- Comedones: Whiteheads and blackheads.
- Inflammatory Lesions: Red, painful pimples and bumps.
The topical treatment works by killing acne-causing bacteria and preventing skin cells from sticking together, which often leads to clogged pores and acne.
Age Restrictions For Treclin Gel
Treclin is generally suitable for adults and children aged 12 and older. However, some prescribers might not prescribe it if you're over 65, as clinical studies mostly focus on adolescents and young adults.
How do I use Treclin gel?
Treclin gel should be applied once daily, preferably at bedtime, as it contains a retinoid that can increase your skin's sensitivity to sunlight.
Wash your face thoroughly with a mild soap, then rinse with warm water.
Pat your face dry using a towel. Apply a pea-sized amount of Treclin gel onto one finger and dot it around your face: on your chin, cheeks, forehead and nose. Gently rub this thin layer into your skin.
If you forget to use Treclin gel, don't double-dose to make up for a missed application. Wait until the next scheduled application.
Use the entire course of Treclin gel, don't stop using it just because you see improvements.
Who shouldn't use Treclin gel?
Do not use Treclin gel if:
- You are allergic to any of the active ingredients, or if you've had an allergic reaction to acne treatment before
- You have acute eczema
- You have rosacea
- You have acute inflammatory skin conditions
- You or a family member has or has ever had skin cancer
- You have a history of antibiotic-associated colitis, characterised by abdominal cramps
Precautions for Treclin Gel
- Sun Sensitivity: Tretinoin increases the risk of sunburn, so it's essential to apply a high SPF every day and avoid sunbeds.
- Other Treatments: If you've used other treatments that contain Belzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, or Sulphur, please wait until you transition to Treclin.
- Astringents: Toners and other astringents can irritate your skin. Choose a mild cleanser and an SPF moisturiser with an SPF of 30 or higher.
- Surgical Procedures: If you're scheduled for surgery in the future, please let your GP know, as you may be unable to use Treclin.
