Telfast 180mg tablets contain an antihistamine called fexofenadine hydrochloride, which blocks the receptors in the body that are responsible for causing allergic reactions, and reduces the symptoms of hay fever and other allergic reactions.

When to Use Telfast 180mg tablets?

Telfast 180mg tablets are popular medications for relieving the symptoms of hay fever (also known as Seasonal Allergic Rhinitis).

If you experience respiratory allergies, the 180mg tablets can provide effective relief. However, they're not suitable for skin reactions.

Telfast 180mg is most beneficial for:

  • Repetitive sneezing
  • Itchy nose
  • Blocked and runny noses
  • Eye irritation

Age restrictions for Telfast 180mg tablets

Telfast 180mg is only suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over. Younger children can use lower-dose allergy treatments, but you should never give them high-strength Telfast tablets.

How to Use Telfast 180mg tablets?

When using Telfast tablets, please follow the instructions carefully to avoid interactions and overdoses:

  • Dosage: The standard dosage is 180mg daily - in the form of one tablet. This dosage applies to adults and children aged 12 and older.
  • Consistency: When possible, please take the tablet at the same time each day to avoid missed doses.
  • Swallow Whole: Always swallow each tablet whole with water. Avoid drinking fruit juices with the tablet, as the citrus compounds can interfere with the allergy treatment.

The treatment usually begins to work within an hour after taking it. Telfast is also non-drowsy, which means you should have no problems taking it in the morning.

Who Should Avoid Using Telfast 180mg Tablets?

While Telfast 180mg is a common over-the-counter treatment, there are some cases when it's best to avoid it.

These include:

  • Allergies: If you're allergic to exofenadine hydrochloride or any of the tablet's inactive ingredients, you should avoid using it, as doing so could result in serious allergic reactions.
  • Antacids: If you take antacids with aluminium or magnesium, they can prevent the antihistamine from working. You should wait for at least two hours before using Telfast.
  • Medication Interactions: Some antibiotics and antifungals can cause side effects by increasing Telfast levels in your blood.

Precautions for Telfast 180mg Tablets

While the following scenarios don't automatically rule out Telfast use, you should seek medical advice first:

  • Kidney or Liver Problems: Impaired kidney and liver function can lead to a build-up of medication in your system.
  • Heart Disease: Using antihistamines requires caution if you have a heart condition. There's a small risk that the medication can cause a heart attack.
  • Seniors: Individuals aged 65 and older may be more sensitive to Telfast's side effects.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: You shouldn't use Telfast when pregnant or breastfeeding unless a doctor says it's safe to do so.
