Soolantra cream is a prescription medicine cream that contains the active ingredient Ivermectin, an anti-inflammatory that belongs to a group of medicines known as Avermectins.
This cream treats pimples as it kills parasites such as Demodex mites – another factor linked to inflamed skin and acne rosacea symptoms.
When to Use Soolantra Cream for Treating Rosacea?
There are different types of rosacea, and Soolantra cream (Ivermectin 1%) treats papulopustular rosacea (spots and inflammatory lesions).
These bumps affect the face and can sometimes be mistaken for acne. However, Soolantra can reduce them and improve your skin.
Please speak to a doctor or registered pharmacist before using the cream, as they can determine whether you're suffering from rosacea, general acne, or another skin condition.
Soolantra Cream Age Restrictions
Soolantra cream is only suitable for treating rosacea in adults over 18. Rosacea symptoms in children are rare, and the cream hasn't been tested in people under 18.
How to Use Soolantra?
In most cases, you'll apply Soolantra cream once daily. Please follow these instructions when using it:
- Prepare: Wash and cleanse your face with a gentle solution. Rosacea can flare up when you scrub your face or use a cleanser that isn't suitable for sensitive skin. You should also wash your hands.
- Apply: We recommend using five pea-sized amounts, applying each to your cheeks, chin, forehead and nose. Gently rub the cream and avoid applying it near your eyes and mouth.
- Finish: Wash your hands after applying the cream and ensure your skin has absorbed it before applying any moisturisers.
Remember that treatment success depends on consistency. Try to apply the cream simultaneously each morning or evening, and always use the full course.
You won't notice results immediately; the cream can take a few weeks to work.
Who Should Avoid Using Soolantra Rosacea Treatments?
While Soolantra is generally a safe treatment, there are some cases where you may need to avoid using it. These include:
- Under 18: Soolantra isn't tested for use in children and teenagers under 18.
- Allergies: If you're allergic or sensitive to Ivermectin or other ingredients in Soolantra, you should avoid using the cream, as it can cause allergic reactions.
Soolantra Cream Precautions:
- Liver Disease: People with severe liver disease or kidney failure should contact their doctor before using Soolantra, as it can worsen their symptoms.
- Pregnant/Breastfeeding: Pregnant or breastfeeding women should also avoid using the cream, unless their doctor recommends otherwise.
As a prescription-only treatment, you won't be able to access Soolantra unless your doctor says it's safe for treating your rosacea.
