Skinoren 20% cream is a topical prescription cream used to treat acne. It contains azelaic acid, which reduces the growth of the harder outer skin cells, such as keratin surface skin cells, which can block pores and cause blackheads and whiteheads.
This medicine should only be used to treat acne (acne vulgaris), although some doctors might also issue it as a rosacea treatment.
When to use Skinoren Cream
Skinoren is an effective treatment for both acne and rosacea. Your doctor might prescribe it to treat both conditions. Azelaic acid can improve mild to moderate acne by reducing the number of blackheads, pimples, and whiteheads.
The treatment can also benefit rosacea - a condition that causes visible blood vessels, pimples, flushing and redness of the face. When used correctly, it can improve the appearance of redness and reduce inflammation.
Age Restrictions:
Azelaic acid is a suitable treatment for adults and children over 12. Please avoid using it on children under 12, as there's little research to prove whether the topical cream is safe.
How to Use Skinoren
Before using Skinoren 20% cream, thoroughly wash your facial area with a mild skin cleansing agent. Dry your face before you apply Skinoren cream.
Apply Skinoren cream to the areas affected by acne twice daily. You should cover the whole affected area, not just the individual spots.
If you have sensitive skin and this treatment irritates your skin initially, reduce the applications to once daily until the irritation passes, and then slowly increase back to twice daily applications.
When to Avoid Using It
There are some cases where you should avoid using Skinoren, including if you have broken or irritated skin, as the cream can cause discomfort. While azelaic acid can work with other acne treatments, please consult your doctor to avoid interactions.
While rare, people with asthma might notice their symptoms worsening when using the treatment. If this happens, please seek medical help.
