When to Use Pseudoephedrine Tablets?

Pseudoephedrine is a highly effective decongestant that can relieve sinus and nasal congestion. It reduces swelling in the sinuses and nasal passages, allowing mucus and air to flow more freely.

If you're suffering from congestion or any of the following conditions, taking pseudoephedrine tablets can be beneficial:

  • Common colds
  • Flu viruses
  • Sinus infections
  • Allergies

Please note that the tablets are only suitable for short-term usage.

Pseudoephedrine Tablets Age Restrictions

Pseudoephedrine decongestant tablets 60mg (12) are suitable for most adults and children aged 12 and over. Children under 12 years may be able to take them for congestion/allergy symptoms, but this is usually at a lower dosage.

How to Use Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride Tablets?

When using Pseudoephedrine Hydrochloride tablets, please follow the instructions carefully.

  • Dosage: Adults and children over 12 can take one 60mg tablet every 4 to 6 hours if needed, but you should never exceed four tablets in 24 hours.
  • Taking the Tablets: You can take the tablets with or without food, but it's important to swallow the tablet whole with water. This is essential for slow-release formulations, as it can cause the entire dose to be released and lead to side effects.
  • Timing: Taking the tablets before bed can lead to insomnia. You should take your last dose a few hours before going to sleep.
  • Short-Term: Please don't exceed seven days of usage. If your symptoms persist, seek advice from a GP or a registered pharmacist.

When to avoid using Pseudoephedrine Tablets?

If you have any of the following conditions or are taking these medications, you should avoid using the tablets unless a doctor advises you to do so:

  • Young Children: Children under six should never use decongestant tablets, as they can cause side effects. Instead, it's best to seek a decongestant that's suitable for young children.
  • MAOIs: You should also avoid taking pseudoephedrine if you're using Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors, as it can cause sudden blood pressure spikes.
  • Other Containing Medicines: If you're currently using other medicines that contain pseudoephedrine, it could result in severe side effects.
  • Long-term Conditions: The decongestant tablets are only suitable for short-term use. Please don't use them for more than seven days, unless a doctor says it's OK.

  • Kidney or Liver Disease: Individuals with kidney problems or liver disease may absorb and eliminate the medicine differently.
