Paramol is a dual therapy pain relief medication that alleviates discomfort quickly and effectively, for a migraine, period pain, dental pain, or muscular aches. The Paramol Tablets help due to a combination of Dihydrocodeine (an effective analgesic) and Paracetamol (a regular painkiller, also helpful for reducing high temperatures and fevers). The painkiller tablets are suitable for adults and children aged 12 years and over. The active ingredients in Paramol tablets are dihydrocodeine 7.46mg and paracetamol 500mg.

Paramol tablets are powerful and effective painkillers used to treat acute moderate pain that cannot be managed with other simple painkillers. It contains two ingredients (paracetamol and dihydrocodeine) that work together to provide fast, effective pain relief.

When to Use Paramol Pain Relief?

Paramol is one of the most effective OTC painkillers, thanks to its combination of paracetamol and dihydrocodeine.

If you have pain that paracetamol, Ibuprofen, or aspirin alone haven't treated, Paramol can be a good choice.

It's most effective for short-term acute pain, including:

  • Severe Headaches: Migraines and tension headaches.
  • Musculoskeletal Pain: Backache and rheumatic pain.
  • Period Pain: Relief from conditions like dysmenorrhea and endometriosis. and period pain.
  • Dental Pain: Toothache and other dental pain.
  • Post-Injury: Strains, sprains, or post-surgical pain.

Age Restrictions for Paramol Tablets

Paramol is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over. However, there are some restrictions, and the dosage for children aged 12-16 is lower.

How to Use Paramol Tablets?

Please follow these instructions when using Paramol:

  • With or After Food: While you can take Paramol without food, we recommend taking it with food to prevent stomach irritation.
  • Do Not Crush: Never break or crush the tablets. Always swallow them whole with water.
  • The 4-Hour Gap: Wait at least 4 hours between doses. Never "double up" - even if the first dose hasn't had a significant effect.
  • Short-Term: Paramol contains an opioid, which is addictive. Use it for three days maximum.

Paramol Tablets Dosages

  • Teenagers aged between 12 and 15 can take one tablet every four to six hours. The maximum daily dose is four tablets.
  • Teenagers over 16 and adults can take one or two tablets every four to six hours, with no more than eight tablets in 24 hours.

When to Avoid Using Paramol Tablets?

Paramol is a high-strength painkiller that contains an opioid. For this reason, there are some scenarios when you should avoid using it.

These include:

  • Breathing Difficulties: Individuals with severe asthma, COPD(Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), or any other respiratory condition.
  • Allergies: You're allergic or sensitive to any of the ingredients in Paramol.
  • Pregnancy or Breastfeeding: Dihydrocodeine can pass to the baby, which could cause breathing and withdrawal problems.
  • MAOI antidepressants: If you've taken Monoamine in the past two weeks, avoid using Paramol.
  • Bowel Conditions: Digestive disorders and bowel conditions can worsen with Paramol.
  • Young Children: Never give Paramol to a child under 12.
  • Medicines: You should never combine Paramol with other paracetamol-containing products and other painkillers.

Precautions for Paramol Tablets

If any of the following apply, please see medical advice before using Paramol:

  • Liver or Kidney Problems: Taking Paramol can lead to a buildup of toxins.
  • Head Injuries: Opioids can worsen the condition and mask increased skull pressure.
  • Alcoholism: Combining paracetamol with alcohol can increase the chances of long-term liver damage.
  • Thyroid Conditions: If you have hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid gland) or Addison's disease, Paramol can increase your symptoms.
  • Prostate Conditions: Paramol can impact your ability to pass urine.
  • Low Blood Pressure: The painkiller may cause your blood pressure to drop further.
  • Medicines: If you're taking medication to treat alcohol addiction, depression, or high blood pressure, speak to your doctor before using Paramol.

Ingredients of Paramol Tablets

Paramol contains two active ingredients:

  • Paracetamol (500mg): Paracetamol is a painkiller that can treat minor to moderate pain and reduce fevers.
  • Dihydrocodeine Tartrate (7.46mg): As a semi-synthetic opioid analgesic, dihydrocodeine treats moderate pain by altering your nervous system's responses. The opioid is generally considered to be stronger than traditional codeine.

Inactive Ingredients:

  • Magnesium Stearate
  • Povidone
  • Hypromellose
  • Maize Starch
  • Stearic Acid

Side Effects of Paramol Tablets

Like any medicine, Paramol may cause side effects.

Common Side Effects Include:

  • Constipation
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Fatigue and brain fog

  • Dry mouth
