Ovex Family Pack 4 Tablets is a product that stops threadworm infections (sometimes called pinworm) in the gut. The Ovex Family Pack functions by depriving the threadworms in your system of the sugars they need to stay alive. Threadworms are infectious. If just one family member gets it, it can contaminate the rest of your family incredibly quickly. Ovex Family Pack 4 Tablets are suitable for young children over two years old and adults, but seek medical advice before using this product. The active ingredient in the tablets is Mebendazole, which is known as an ‘anthelmintic’.

Ovex is an effective treatment for threadworms. It contains the active ingredient mebendazole, which works fast to eradicate the infestation within the gut by preventing the worms from absorbing sugar. If the worm is unable to absorb sugar, it cannot sustain life. It is key for the whole family to be treated, not just the patient who shows symptoms.

When to Use Ovex Tablets?

Ovex tablets are beneficial when you suspect you or a family member has a threadworm infection. However, as threadworms spread easily, the family pack of tablets can treat all household members.

A healthcare professional may recommend using the treatment for other forms of threadworm, including roundworm, hookworm, and whipworm.

Age Restrictions

Ovex is generally suitable for adults and children over 2. However, a doctor may recommend it for children between six months and two years old.

How to Use Ovex Family Pack Tablets?

An Ovex Family Pack contains four tablets, sufficient to treat a family of four. As a single-dose treatment, one tablet should be enough to treat threadworm. You can use these tablets whole, split them into smaller pieces, or crush them and mix them with liquid.

Threadworm is a contagious condition, so even if only one family member has it, you should treat everyone.

While most people recover with one treatment, the tablets only kill adult worms and won't eliminate the eggs. Your healthcare professional might suggest a second dose to prevent any reinfection from hatched eggs.

When to Avoid Using Ovex for Worm Infections?

Ovex is one of the go-to treatments for threadworm, and it's generally safe. However, there are some situations where you should avoid it, including:

  • Pregnancy: Ovex may not be suitable for pregnant women, and most healthcare professionals will recommend that you try non-medicinal measures first. However, if these don't work, please see a doctor, as they'll be able to advise on a suitable course of treatment.
  • Breastfeeding: As with the above, most doctors will recommend natural measures if you're breastfeeding.
  • Allergies: Please avoid using the medicine if you're sensitive or allergic to mebendazole and any of the other ingredients contained in Ovex tablets.
  • Other Medications: Please speak to your GP or a registered pharmacist if you're taking antibiotics, as certain types can interact with Ovex.
  • Medical Conditions: If you have problems with your liver, kidneys, bone marrow, or a glucose or fructose intolerance, you should find alternative treatments.

Precautions

Most people find that Ovex tablets are highly effective, but if your symptoms persist or worsen, you should seek medical advice immediately.

Ovex Side Effects

Very rarely, a patient may experience abdominal discomfort, including nausea and vomiting. Other potential side effects include flatulence and diarrhoea - often because the gut clears the worms.
