Nasonex nasal spray is a steroid spray that treats hayfever symptoms, allergic rhinitis and other allergies. It alleviates congestion, runny noses, itchiness, watery eyes, and sneezing. When sprayed up the nasal passage, Nasonex ejects a steroid that soaks into the cells of the nasal lining, preventing allergic responses and inflammation. It's suitable for adults and children aged three years and above and contains mometasone furoate (a steroid).

Nasonex is a nasal spray containing the active ingredient mometasone furoate, a type of medicine called a corticosteroid. Nasonex is used to relieve hay fever and allergy symptoms (rhinitis), such as sneezing, itchy eyes and blocked or runny nose. This medicine can also be used to treat nasal polyps and small growths in the lining of the nose.

Like all medicines, there is a possibility that Nasonex nasal spray may cause side effects in some people. If you experience any symptoms of an allergic reaction (swollen face, tongue or throat, trouble swallowing, hives or shortness of breath) seek medical help immediately. Common side effects of Nasonex nasal spray include:

  • Headache
  • Sneezing
  • Nose bleeds
  • Sore nose or throat
  • Ulcers in the nose
  • Respiratory tract infection
