The morning-after pill is used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex. It helps to delay or prevent the release of an egg from the ovary, to prevent fertilisation. If you need treatment for up to 120 hours post-sexual intercourse, please visit our page for Ella-One.

This emergency contraception pill is taken as a single dose; one can be taken up to 72 hours, and one up to 96 hours after unprotected sex. Please note that effectiveness increases when this tablet is taken sooner rather than closer to the 72-hour cut-off. A member of the team will ask you when this occurred, and your weight, to ensure you receive the most appropriate treatment.

You will need a double dose of the Levonorgestrel emergency contraception pill if you weigh over 70 kilograms or have a BMI over 26. This is because having a higher body weight/BMI is thought to reduce the effectiveness of oral emergency contraceptives.

There is always a risk of side effects when you buy the Levonorgestrel pill online and other medications. Some of these can be quite mild and can subside over time. Others are more serious and should be reported to your GP or family planning clinic right away if you experience any side effects. Please contact a member of our team if you are concerned about any potential side effects that may occur when taking oral contraceptives.

Common side effects include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dizziness
  • Delayed period
