Generic Finasteride 1mg tablets promote growth and reduce further balding in mild to moderate hair loss cases. They're essentially the same as branded Propecia tablets, but are often more affordable.

Pricing is provided as a reference only. The final decision on issuing Finasteride 1mg tablets remains with our Prescriber / Pharmacist.

When to Use Finasteride Tablets?

Finasteride is an effective treatment for male pattern baldness. Many men experience hereditary hair loss, often resulting in reduced confidence. However, Finasteride is proven to promote hair growth when taken regularly.

The tablets are more affordable and less invasive than a hair transplant if you want to slow down hair loss and promote scalp hair regrowth.

In some cases, Finasteride is also used to treat prostate conditions, including Benign Prostate Hyperplasia or an enlarged prostate.

As a prescription-only treatment, you'll need to see a doctor or have a consultation with our registered pharmacists before we can administer it.

Finasteride Tablets Age Restrictions

Finasteride is only suitable for men over 18. Due to its main purpose and potential side effects, it's not a recommended treatment for women or children. If you're a female experiencing hair loss, please contact us for treatment options.

How to Use Finasteride?

When taking Finasteride for male pattern baldness, the dosage is one 1mg tablet per day. We recommend taking the tablet simultaneously daily to maintain consistent levels in your bloodstream.

You can take the tablet with or without food, but you should never crush or break it. Please swallow whole with water and try to avoid missing doses.

Finasteride will instantly start to work when you metabolise your first pill, but it takes time to build up in your system. When treating hair loss, it's important to remember that there are no shortcuts, and you might not see initial improvements until 12 weeks of consistent usage.

Hair growth typically begins at six to nine weeks of treatment, with most people witnessing the most significant improvement after a year.

When to Avoid Using Finasteride 1mg Tablets?

Finasteride is suitable for most cases of male pattern balding, but there are times when you should avoid using it. These include:

  • Allergies: If you're sensitive or allergic to any of the ingredients in the tablets, you should avoid using them, as it can result in a severe reaction.
  • Women & Children: The medication is used to treat male pattern baldness and prostate issues in men. It's not been extensively tested in women and children, so please avoid using it unless your GP expressly advises you to do so.
  • Men Who Want to Father A Child: Finasteride may decrease semen volume and lead to a lower sperm count, which can impact motility rates. If you're planning on becoming a father, you should find alternative male pattern baldness medications.

Precautions for Finasteride 1mg Tablets

While the following conditions don't instantly rule you out of using Finasteride, you should still seek medical advice, as they can increase the risks of side effects:

  • Mental Health: While uncommon, Finasteride has been linked to higher risks of depression and suicidal ideation. Men with a history of mental health issues should weigh up the pros and cons of using the medication with their doctor.
  • Medical Conditions: People with a history of liver and bladder problems may have a heightened risk of side effects. In severe cases, their condition could worsen.
