Oral hormone replacement therapy is licensed for use in postmenopausal women who have not had a period in 12 consecutive months. They either just contain estradiol, which replaces oestrogen deficiency and is a synthetic form of progesterone. However, some HRT tablets contain both hormones and can have a 14-day cycle of a single hormone with a 14-day cycle of combined hormones. However, some contain only oestrogen. Remember to follow the directions on the medicine you are prescribed to ensure that you are taking it correctly.

When you buy Femoston or indeed any other hormone replacement therapy (HRT) medication, there is always a chance of side effects occurring. Most side effects with HRT are mild, manageable and go away over time. However, there are certain side effects that can be difficult to cope with and can affect other areas of your health, although they are very rare. Any serious side effects should be discussed with your doctor straight away. Contact a member of our team if you are concerned about side effects when using HRT.

Some side effects may include:

  • Menstrual cycle abnormalities
  • Increased chances of developing thrush
  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Headaches
  • Mood swings
  • Weight fluctuations
  • High blood pressure
  • Changes to breast tissue

There are several side effects that can be potentially dangerous, although very rare. If you experience swelling in your lower legs that are hot to the touch, you will need to seek medical attention as soon as possible.
