Contraceptive pills are usually taken for around 21 days and then require a 7-day break. During this break women often experience a breakthrough bleed which resembles a normal period.

Other forms of contraceptive pills, such as the Femodene ED contraceptive pill, need to be taken throughout the entire month without a break. This method often stops regular menstruation from happening or can cause overall lighter periods.

Before taking the Femodene ED contraceptive pill, it is important to measure your weight, as well as take readings of your blood pressure, as these can affect which pill is best for you. You can purchase home blood pressure kits or visit a local pharmacy to get a free blood pressure check. You will also be asked questions regarding your health history, including migraines, smoking, a family history of stroke or heart attack, and breast cancer.

When taking any form of medication such as the Femodene pill, there can be a risk of developing certain side effects. Most side effects related to Femodene ED are mild and should go away over time. Other more serious side effects, although rare, can cause health issues that can be difficult to manage. These more severe side effects need to be reported to your GP straight away. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the contraceptive pill, speak to a member of the Pharmacy Online team who will be happy to provide expert advice on different contraception alternatives.

Common side effects include:

  • Changes to breast appearance, like discolouration around the nipple or lumps around the breasts
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Vomiting or nausea
  • Changes in sex drive
  • Mood swings
  • Breast tenderness
  • Acne
  • Light bleeding or spotting

It’s important to be aware of some serious side effects that can be brought on by using the Femodene pill. You should talk to your doctor if you experience any of these symptoms:

  • Swelling in your lower legs that are inflamed and hot to the touch
  • Discomfort and bleeding after sex
