Available to adults in gel and ointment forms, Dovobet contains a powerful corticosteroid that can effectively treat flare-ups of mild to moderate psoriasis, even on the scalp. Just one application per day can ease irritation, reduce inflammation, and soothe dry, flaky skin.
When to use Dovobet Gel and Ointment
Dovobet Gel and Dovobet Ointment are effective treatments for psoriasis, which causes red and scaly patches on the skin and scalp. If you suffer from discomfort due to your condition, applying Dovobet can improve symptoms and soothe your skin.
While Dovobet gel is suitable for the scalp, we recommend using ointment for other areas of the body. If you're unsure, our pharmacists can help you choose.
Age Restrictions:
Dovobet is recommended for adults aged 18 and over. There's little evidence to show that the treatment is suitable for people under 18 as of now.
How to use Dovobet Gel:
- Apply a thin layer of ointment to the affected areas once a day, avoiding contact with the genitals, eyes, and face.
- Remember to wash your hands thoroughly after applying the treatment.

Precautions
Before using Dovobet for psoriasis Vulgaris, you should take the time to read and understand everything in the Patient Information Leaflet. Additionally, you should take note of the following warnings:
- Do not smoke or get close to naked flames when using Dovobet, as it may be flammable. And since it can soak into your clothing and/or bedding, you should wash those things more frequently to be safe.
- After applying Dovobet gel, you should avoid exposing the treated skin to large amounts of sunlight or artificial UV light.
- If you have erythrodermic, exfoliative, pustular, or guttate psoriasis, you should speak to a doctor before using Dovobet.
- Dovobet should not be applied to broken skin, ulcers, or areas affected by skin conditions such as acne or rosacea.
- Dovobet contains betamethasone, a steroid that should not be applied to skin infected by bacteria, viruses, parasites, or fungus.
- If you are taking or using any other medicine (prescribed or non-prescribed), speak to a doctor or pharmacist before using Dovobet.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
There is no adequate data for use during pregnancy. Studies in animals with glucocorticoids have shown a level of toxicity, but the impact of this in humans is uncertain. Therefore, Dovobet should only be used in pregnant females if the benefits of therapy outweigh the potential risks to the unborn foetus.
Betamethasone can pass into breast milk, but at therapeutic doses, it is not known to be harmful. There is no data on the excretion of calcipotriol in breast milk. Dovobet Gel should be prescribed with caution to breastfeeding mothers. The gel should not be used on the breasts if the mother is breastfeeding.
