Differin gel 0.1% is a topical acne treatment that is applied directly onto the skin. It contains the active ingredient adapalene, a retinoid treatment which as well as having an anti inflammatory effect, also reduces the number of blackheads, spots and acne breakouts. It also helps treat acne by promoting healing within the skin to reduce scarring and swelling. This treatment is a great alternative for people who don't want to, or can't, take oral antibiotics to treat acne.

Differin gel is different from other acne treatments. This topical treatment contains the active ingredient adapalene, rather than an antibiotic. It's suitable for people suffering with mild to moderate acne.

How does Differin work?

Differin cream gel contains the active ingredient adapalene, a form of vitamin A which works by increasing the turnover of dead skin cells. By aiding the natural exfoliation of skin, it helps to unblock pores and sebaceous glands, reducing the appearance of blackheads and spots from appearing.

What is Differin cream?

Differin cream is another name for Differin 0.1% gel. Both work as a cutaneous treatment of mild to moderate acne.

Like all medicines, Differin can cause side effects. While not everybody will experience side effects, it's important to be aware of them.

Side effects may include:

  • Inflammation of the skin
  • Skin burning sensation like itching, tingling, or stinging
  • Skin redness
  • Dry skin or flaky skin
  • Sensitivity to sunlight

If you're worried about your acne products stop treatment immediately and consult a medical professional.

There is always a risk of side effects with all medications. Some of these can be quite mild and can subside over time. Others are more serious and should be reported to your GP right away if you experience them.

Please contact a member of our team if you are concerned about any potential side effects that may occur when taking Differin.

If Differin isn't suitable for your skin conditions, our online pharmacy has a range of other over the counter treatments and other medicines for treating acne.
