Co-codamol is generally suitable for adults and children over 12. However, you should never give it to a younger child without seeking medical advice, as codeine phosphate is a strong pain relief treatment.
When administering it to children aged 12-17, co-codamol should only be used as a last resort when other painkillers don't have any impact.
How to Use Co-Codamol Tablets?
- Adults aged 18 and over (in some cases 16 and over) can take one to two tablets every four to six hours - a maximum of eight tablets in 24 hours.
- Children aged 12 to 17 should take one tablet every six hours - a maximum of four tablets in 24 hours.
Swallow a tablet whole with water. When possible, take co-codamol with food to reduce the chances of nausea.
Please remember that codeine is a short-term treatment only, and you shouldn't use it for longer than three days in a row. Doing so could result in dependence or even addiction.
