Aciclovir tablets are an antiviral medication designed to help treat genital herpes, a condition in which adults suffer from sores in the vaginal region, around the penis, or even in the anus area. Aciclovir 400mg tablets prevent the herpes virus from growing and spreading, enabling the immune system to suppress the infection. It's suitable for adults aged 18 years and contains the active ingredient aciclovir.

Aciclovir 400mg tablets are an antiviral medication that can be used to help reduce symptoms of a genital herpes outbreak. It can also be used to help suppress the virus, to prevent symptoms from reappearing.

Dosage

For an initial outbreak of genital herpes, the recommended dose is 400mg three times a day for five days.

If you have more than six outbreaks of genital herpes a year, it is recommended to take a suppression course of 400mg twice a day for three months.

With all medications, there is always a risk of side effects when taking Aciclovir tablets for genital herpes outbreaks. Often, they can be quite mild and can subside over time. Others are more serious and should be reported to your GP right away if you experience any side effects. Please contact a member of our team if you are concerned about any potential side effects that may occur when taking aciclovir.

Common side effects of Aciclovir tablets may include:

  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fever
  • Vomiting
  • Dizziness

You should inform a healthcare professional if you start to show any of the following side effects:

  • Seizures
  • Drowsiness
  • Confusion
  • Agitation
  • Tremor
